I declined to call this section "modern" traction for obvious reasons. The electric could be mistaken for steam at a distance, it has a compressed air whistle not a horn!

Brittany, France: The Reseau Breton comes alive (well almost)
The metre gauge railway that ran through the centre of Brittany is being re-created at Gouarec, 22570, Cote d'Armor. It is planned initially to run from Gare de Gouarec to Halte de Bon Repos, a distance of 4.1km on most of the original trackbed. There is a possibility that an extension to Mur de Bretagne may be created at sometime in the future.
The ACBR will be a mix of 60cm & Metre Gauge. The Reseau Breton Museum being created at the Gare de Gouarec.
There is an active thread on this...

Harz Narrow Gauge - HSB
I know that many people are interested in the HSB railway systems in the Harz Mountains and - as a visitor - I have compiled my images into a book that may interest either those who have been - or those wondering if a visit is worthwhile.

Uganda Railways
My wife and I are in Uganda at the moment (9th May 2018), I have been here a number of times before. The national railway system is metre-gauge. I hope this first post is of interest to members of this forum.

Mombasa, Kenya
You will probably have noticed on the forum that I have recently been focussing on the metre-gauge lines that served Kampala and Uganda from the East African coast at Mombasa. While doing research on the route of the Mombasa line, I came across photographs and, in particular, old postcards that showed traces of tramway or trolleyway in the streets of Mombasa in the late nineteenth century. I thought it needed more research and this blog is the result....

Tramways and Tramroads in Provence - the TAM and the TNL
In our many trips to Nice and Les Alpes Maritimes, my wife and I have seen a significant amount of engineering works, bridges, viaducts and tunnels all on lines which were neither part of the PLM network of standard gauge railways, nor part of the general metre-gauge network. It turns out that there were a significant numbe of line operated by tow main tramway companies in Provence, Tramways de les Alpes Maritime (TAM) and tramways de Nice et du Littoral (TNL).

Società Veneta Ferrovie.
Società Veneta Ferrovie was one of the names of the old "Società Veneta per l'esercizio ferrovie secondarie", a company that, after the creation of FS state railways in 1905, was left with a collection of non connected branch lines. AFAIK only an handful lines survive, The Udine Cividale, operated by FUC, Adria-Mestre, operated by Sistemi Territoriali and two (maybe some more) operated by FER, the Bologna-Portomaggiore and Parma-Suzzara.

Vouga Line Portugal
Hi - does anyone have any up to date information as I hope to visit in the first two weeks of September. The CP timetable seems to indicate that that you have to make your own way from the two "main line" stations to the Vouga Line stations - is this far or walkable? Any info gratefully received - Martin
